Then Jesse said to his son David, “Take now for your brothers an ephah of this dried grain and these ten loaves and run to your brothers at the camp. And carry these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand…” (1 Samuel 17:17-18)
When God wanted to bring down a mighty giant who was terrifying the nation of Israel, He sent someone who was weak in the natural realm. This is something that is worth paying closer attention to. All the trained officials with experience in warfare were terrified before the mighty giant. In the eyes of the world we may be insignificant but be aware that nothing in impossible with God.
David was asked by his father Jesse to go to the camp to bring food for his brothers. David did not have any clue about the battle that was going on. He was dressed like a simple shepherd boy. He didn’t have any formal military training, no armor, and no real weapon other than a sling and five smooth stones from a brook. It was no wonder that Goliath mocked this young shepherd boy and his strategy. He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks (1 Samuel 17:43).
I would like to highlight one simple and profound application from this battle: the beauty of obeying small and simple instructions. The Bible says that we should not despise the day of humble beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). David obeyed his father’s simple instructions to be a pizza delivery boy. God used his simple submission to his father’s instruction and placed him in a very strategic position for the greatest breakthrough in his life to climb the ladder of being a King over the nation of Israel. David was at the right place at the right moment because he humbled himself and submitted to his father’s instructions to deliver bread and cheese to his brothers.
Precious people, be faithful to obey even the small instructions of the leadership placed in your lives. The seemingly insignificant actions you obey, may bring you into the place where the Lord wants to establish you as a king over many things. Luke 16:10 says, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much.” Look to be faithful and true to the small things the Lord asks you to do through the leaders in your life and He will surely entrust you to greater things.
